The Art Work Typesetting Process

Send comments on this topic.

Introduction

All Glass, Crystal and Acrylic Awards have default Processes built in such as Glass Trophy Etching  Medium. These can be removed easily. As well as the etching process they have a process built in called Artwork Typesetting. It also can be easily removed if you prefer not to have it built in.

Artwork Typesetting

The Artwork Typesetting Process is added to the above awards because every time you sell one of these awards the graphic artist will have to do some form of typesetting work, often with individual names. The Process has a sell price set as $1.00 plus tax. The thought behind this is that every time the art department deals with a piece they collect $1.00 for the departments kitty.

An Art department costs money to run. You have equipment and staff to pay and the process takes up time. Even if your graphic department is you, you still need to get paid for the action. In my business I employ 2 Graphic Artists and buy new computers about every 2 years so there is an expense going on there. The idea of Artwork Typesetting fees built into the Products (and infact Artwork set up fees) is that this renumeration covers the expense of running and art department.

In twelve months of historical sales you will be able to see exactly how much Art Process charges you have collected and also how many process were performed. This invaluable information will instantly tell you if your art department is a liability or a profitable asset.

You do not have to leave the process in the products. We have a simple and fast way of removing them but you should consider the reason why it is there and perhaps even discuss it with your accountant or business advisor as this sort of thing is pretty much standard costing factoring in general business principle.

If you decide that you do not want the process in the system please consider leaving it there but resetting the Process Price to $0.00. This way it has no effect on the products price and you can decide to implement the policy later if you change your mind on this idea. It will also serve as a process marker on the job sheet.

To Leave the process in the products but reduce the cost to zero simply open the process in the process editor and change the price down to zero > tab out of the price field and Save.
